"HIGHLIGHTS"
- PREFACE
So, here's a selection of some
of the nicest moments in the "Elabeth"Jimmy Gourley
collection, chosen by Didier Drussant and myself. You will notice
that there are four blues compositions. I have always enjoyed
playing and listening to the blues. The blues feeling for me is
the essence of jazz and my favorite jazz musiciens really kept
that feeling alive in their offerings, blues or otherwise. Witness
"Bird", "Prez", "Tatum", "Wes
Montgomery", "Charlie Christian"et al ! It took
me a long time to find the "secret" of the blues feeling
in my playing. I hope these selections will help to convince you
that I found "it"...?
Playing a ballad solo that "held
up" was another difficulty for me but I feel I finally got
it together. Now I love to play ballads. Of course I have had
a lot of help in the people I was lucky to play with.
There is of course, a lot of good
music on all of the "ELABETH" C.D.'S.
I recorded but here's a sampler.
