Ted Nash is not quite as well known namewise as McPherson but he definitely should be. A veteran of the Louis Bellson Big Band, I am not very familiar with his work and know nothing of his continental accompianists. The Frencb liners are of no help to me either. This is postbop Jazz with a tuneliist including works from Monk, Horace Silver, Andrew Hill, Billy Strayhom, two numbers each from pianoman Hutman and the leader. The rythm team play together as if they were all old friends and make Nash sound li,ke no stranger to them. It's great to see someone finally doing an Andrew Hill composition because that is surely one of the la st great untapped librairies by Jazzmen left. Nash's "What thing" is a modernistic piece that alludes to "What is this thing called love' in oddways. This all-tenor program reminds this writer of Chris Potter when he plays the bi B-flat instrument, which is just fine because I consider him a real comer just as ! now do Ted Nash.
